Possible Xbox 360 HD-DVD Interface

Read this article and tell me what you think about this-

Those wacky folks over at Gamerscoreblog.com, like the rest of the gaming community by now, have heard Major Nelson’s latest podcast which revealed more information about the HD-DVD add-on drive. Those sneaky devils also managed to procure the first ever tentative photos of the possible, not final interface (see a theme starting to emerge here, folks?).

Apparently, you’ll be able to toggle between the two drives by pressing the up or down button while the “play DVD” option is selected. The options you’ll be able to choose from are “Play DVD,” “Play HDDVD,” “Open Disc Tray,” and finally, “Open HDDVD Disc Tray.”

Goodbye Everyone

If you haven't heard yet, I have permanently left 360 Talk and DARTHBALLZ45 and MOKEYBOY will be taking my spot from now on. Im sorry if any of you wanted me to stay, but I just dont have time anymore. I felt it was necessary to let everyone know from me instead of from someone else.

360 Talk Episode 13 Delay

We tried to record this episode tonight but we came to an agreement that we were just going to scrap the episode and record it tomorrow. We just had some really long news segments and we went off-topic for about 20 minuets talking about Halo. We are going to re-record episode 13 tomorrow with some revised notes to make the show better. Sorry for the delay.

Drunk Microsoft rep Leaks info on Portable Xbox

About a month ago, Microsoft explicitly shot down all rumors of the Xbox platform getting a handheld brother anywhere soon. As is the thing with this kind of rumors though, they are persistent like a virus that you just can’t get rid off. And now a drunk Microsoft representative apparently leaked more info than he should have during a session with some strong bottles of French wine.

According to the article, conveniently Babelfished here if your French, like mine, is about as good as the average person’s ability to fly at will, ATi is already busy building the portable graphics chip and all the contracts with them have been finalized. This could be considered a surprise after another recent bunch of rumors that archrival NVIDIA was discussing building a portable game console with “a major player in the video games industry”. At the end of the discussion the MS rep had some troubles articulating apparently, but he was still quoted as saying the fabled portable Xbox should hit the markets before the end of 2007.

So, you’re all up to date with all the rumors now. MS denies, but ofcourse we all suspect/know there’s a team working on it secretly since the reorganization. Or is that the xPod team after all? Does anyone still understand anything of this? Guess we’ll just have to wait for official announcements, or get one of the real head honchos at Xbox drunk ourselves.

A photoshopped fan design.

Peter Moore Talks About a Possible New 360 Controller

It would appear that Nintendo's Wii and its unique controller may be having the unintended effect of forcing the other console makers to look at their controllers and seeing where the designs could be made more "accessible" for the casual gamer. During discussions at at recent Electronic Arts Community Event, Microsoft's Xbox boss Peter Moore suggested that the company may be studying a simplified alternative to its current Xbox 360 gamepad design, according to a report at GamesIndustry.biz.

As he has on previous occassions, Moore praised Nintendo's console for its controller design, comparing it to the Atari 2600's joystick, for its simplicity and stated that Microsoft is actively looking at ways to make games "easier and more intuitive." Moore claimed that current controller designs with their "shoulder buttons, triggers, analog sticks, d-pads" represent a significant "intimidation factor" that acts as a barrier to entry for a wider gaming audience. To solidfy this point, Moore stated that Microsoft was open to any innovation that creates a "broader reach for games, because as an industry we've got to do that - we've got to bring more people in."

When pressed on the issue of Microsoft's developing of an alternative to its current Xbox 360 controller design, Moore cryptically stated that the company was "doing a lot of stuff there", but added that it was something that was not ready to be publicly discussed. Moore did say that Microsoft would not force "anything that is not going to be intuitive and innovative" which suggests that the company would not be employing motion-sensing technology in any future controller designs.

Five New Call of Duty2 Maps Due Out THIS Thursday

From Xboxic.com

Sure, we all do. Whether we want to pay for them is another thing entirely. For those that do, Infinity Ward Major Nelson-esque personality Four Zero Two has announced that on Thursday (that would be the 29th), we’ll be able to buy those five new maps for 100 Microsoft Points lower than originally expected, as his gift to us.

Oh do I have a surprise for all of you!

For all you that have been hounding me for details on the new Map Pack for Call Of Duty 2; I have a little gift.

Not only are we planning on dropping these bad boys early… thats right… I said early.

This THURSDAY to be exact, but because I love you all so much. They won’t be the expected 900 MS points.

Oh no my friends…. oh no….

As my special gift to you, they will only be 800 MS Points!

Thats right, this Thursday, Five new maps, only 800 MS Points!

The Invasion Pack includes:
Antoville, France (Crossroads);
St. Louet, France (Newvillers);
Amaye sur Seulles, France (Normandy);
Alam Halfa, Egypt (Decoytown);
Rostov, Russia (Harbor)

I plan on sneaking out an exclusive screenshot of one of the new maps early for you to take a gander at.

Get ready for some new battlefields to wreck havoc on!

Early, and for a cheaper price than originally expected. If only other developers would follow suit (and it looks as though IW has learned from the online patch debacle, good for you guys!)

I'm Taking a Long Summer Break

For all of you who have mistakenly heard that I was leaving 360 Talk. I'm not! I'm simply taking a break for a month or two from podcasting in general because I have been busy with sports, work, and pretty much everything else that gets in the way during the summer. I also never said that Phantom Gett was an idiot. I don't know where that rumor came from.

Also, I wonder why my Admin. privileges from the site have been revoked? I started this site and yet I'm not an Administrator. WTF?

EDIT: I apologize to anyone who I may have offended from anything that I have done. I have been very busy this summer and I tend to get agitated when I'm always busy.

6/22/06

We "Might" Have a Problem

Everyone...I have some horrible news.

According to Sharpshot, he is quiting 360 Talk. (According to Sniper Evo86, he also thinks I'm an Idiot...) Also, Sharpshot has informed me that Kynitekia's quiting is all but a certainty. Meaning he has more or less resigned from all podcasting.

This is a dark day for 360 Talk. I am sorry to everyone who likes Sharpshot. I want him on 360 Talk. but if he doesn't want to podcast (and thinks I'm an idiot...) who am I to say otherwise. Life Comes at you fast...

But...Our New Co-Host who has graciously agreed to help us...Is MOKEYBOY! Welcome Mokey! I hope Spelchek keeps on helping us to the extent he can.

I hope MOKEY, Spelchek and I can keep this cast alive at least untill the end of summer if any of you can put up with that.

I think I need a tall stuff one...Oh mi god...

-Phantom Gett

EDIT: This is an Edit...I just got SS15's mail and he is not quiting, nor some of the formentioned things in this post! Sorry, I was depressed when I worte this and will try to keep my emoticons in check in the future...

News on Upcoming titles For the Live Arcade

- Reports on the Web allegedly have revealed the street date and price of several upcoming Xbox Live Arcade games including Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting, Pac-Man, Frogger, and even Lumines Live.

According to the site, which scanned in a calendar from the Official Xbox Magazine, Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting is due this June for a price of 400 Microsoft Points (about $5). When contacted, a representative form Capcom told IGN "We haven't announced on the date or the price," which is consistent with Capcom's previous messages. The company hasn't pinpointed a date mainly because all Xbox Live games take from one week to three months to certify.

When IGN contacted Future Networks USA, which supposedly published the date in its calendar section, a representative told IGN they were unaware of the SF date information. A Microsoft representative gave us the usual song and dance, "We can't comment on rumors or speculation," though the representative added that Street Fighter is likely coming this summer, possibly in July.

Microsoft, which is publishing Lumines Live, wouldn't comment on a release date or price either. The game is allegedly due in August/September for 1200 MS points (about $15), a significant amount less than the PSP version, considering it will have licensed videos running in the background.

Konami's Frogger, announced at E3 2006, is believed to sell for 400 MS Points with a release date of August/September. When contacted, a Konami representative didn't dispute the date or prices, but said that no official information was been released yet. "But it is coming this summer to Xbox Live," the Konami rep added. "I can confirm it's coming this summer."

When IGN contacted Namco on the phone, a representative confirmed that Pac-Man will cost 400 MSPs ($5) and a release date of August/September.

"I have confirmed that we are bringing Pac-Man to Xbox Live Arcade at 400 points," the rep said. "The exact release date is not determined but the estimate of August/Sept. is reasonable."

Other potentially new information on the unofficial list includes an additional Perfect Dark Zero map pack due in July for 500 MSPs, a Kameo hardcore package featuring more difficult versions of the single-player campaign and co-op campaigns, new leaderboards, skins, and a new co-op game with competitive elements in July for 500 MSPs; Cloning Clyde (July, 800 MSPs), and Roboblitz (August/September, 800 MSPs).

Some Info on the Upcoming 360 accesories

From IGN:

Gaming news blog Joystiq is reporting a few more details on the host of Xbox 360 accessories that were hinted at at E3.

According to their anonymous source at Microsoft the Xbox Live Vision camera will be available in a bundle with a wired headset, Live Arcade title Uno, and a month of XBL gold service for $39.99.

Microsoft may also offer new X360 faceplates for Halo, Forza 2, and Viva Pinata for $19.99; a wireless headset for $59.99; a 256MB memory unit for $59.99; and a wireless gaming receiver for $19.99.

Microsoft previously stated that camera is slated for release September 19, 2006 and the rest of the accessories are due out in time for the holiday season 2006. According to Joystiq the receiver should be available early 2007.

IGN contacted a representative from Microsoft to see if we could confirm any of these accessories or price points and they gave us this standard response: "At this point Microsoft has announced the launch dates and some of the initial title support for the Xbox Live Vision camera. However, Microsoft has not announced pricing, or any additional details regarding the Xbox Live Vision camera. These will be announced ahead of the launch."

Halo Movie Supposedly Delayed?!?!?

Here is a little more info on the Halo moivefrom Xboxic.com

Master Chief won’t make it onto the silver screen next summer. The movie adaptation of the game has been pushed back at least a year according to popular movie site IMDb. The ‘good’ news is that the movie will still be produced by Peter Jackson (not directed) and the script for the movie is done and approved by Bungie. Let’s just hope they’ll do this movie right and don’t rape it like Uwe Boll does with his movies.

The directorless film adaptation of Microsoft’s popular video game will be executive produced by triple-Academy Award winners Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh via their WingNut Films banner. The Halo script was penned by Alex Garland (28 Days Later), who was paid $1 million by Microsoft to write a script that met Bungie’s approval.

With the third installment in the game series rumored to be connected with the silver screen adaptation, could the delay of the movie affect the release of Halo 3 or are they both planned to arrive in winter 2007/2008? According to Bungie, Halo 3 and the Halo movie will not affect each other in terms of release dates.

PS3 "Live Arcade"

Here's a little story from IGN about the PS3 stealing more S**T from the 360.......Again.

According to a job posting on CraigsList today That Game Company is looking for "a superstar engineer with a strong graphics background to develop an unannounced downloadable title for the PlayStation 3 launch in November."

IGN contacted That Game Company's developer and president Kellee Santiago who revealed that the game is for a service which will offer downloadable casual games, likely similar to Xbox Live Arcade, and will be available for download on the PlayStation 3's launch day. She went on to say the game would be a port of That Game Company's admittedly addictive, bright blue, and currently free web game flOw.

This would mean that Sony is planning to compete with the wildly popular Xbox Live Arcade with its own downloadable games.

IGN called Ryan Bowling head of Public Relations at Sony who could only say that this game and any plans for the PS3's online functionality are unannounced.

360 Talk Episode #10 Recorded!

Hey guys! Episode #10 has been recorded. This is the special "Post E3 Edition" and we will also read whatever voicemails you have sent us. Expect this show to be finished sometime this weekend.

The 360 Dashboard Update Set For Next Week!.......Seriously!!

YAY!Heres the story from IGN:
- Ever since the November 22, 2005 Xbox 360 launch, gamers have been exposed to Microsoft's slick, bladed interface, Xbox Live Arcade, Marketplace, and the actual gameplay functionality of Xbox Live itself. The top-down subscription network will see a big update next week when Microsoft deploys a huge new upgrade, enhancing dozens of sections to the interface to make it easier to use, faster, and more functional.

As part of Microsoft's plans to constantly grow and improve Xbox Live and the thriving economy it's created, the company will update the system twice a year, in spring and fall. Next week's deployment (Microsoft wouldn't pinpoint an exact day) will be its first big spring cleaning, which will affect three major areas of the system, Xbox Live Marketplace, Media, and general usability. In other words, based on user feedback, criticism, and input, Microsoft's 70-person development team fixed a bunch of things and made user functionality smarter and faster. The automatic update will take place when you connect to Xbox Live and takes approximately one minute to download.

In the Marketplace, gamers will now find new categories for downloads. So, if you want to differentiate a movie from a game download, it's now easier. Download sections are clearer: you'll find games, media and entertainment, demos and game videos, and themes and game pictures categories, as opposed to one section for downloads and then a confused search thereafter.

Also under the marketplace menu, you'll also find a new menu link called Active Downloads. Guess what that means? You'll be able to queue up to six different, be they movies, game demos, or themes. The download feature is niftier than that. You can have six downloads queued up and play a full retail or Xbox Live Arcade game simultaneously without interruptions or slowdown, according to Microsoft. You also can prioritize the order in which you download the items mid-stream, if you want to. Finally, if you want to play a multiplayer game, the downloads will automatically stop and pick up when you finish playing online. Nifty.

New functionality has been added to movie and game trailers, too. Once you've downloaded a flick, you can get to the actual movie one step quicker, since Microsoft eliminated a menu in the process. You can now go straight to watch the movie and control it with fast forward, review, pause, stop, and play options with the 360 or the universal remote controller. We watched the Halo 3 trailer being downloaded, played, fast-forwarded, etc. Microsoft also added bookmarking functionality to movie playback -- though that functionality is always on, requiring players to manually turn it off.

Xbox Live Arcade games will be better organized. When you go to download a game, a new header, Newly Released Downloads, enables you to see the most recently released available games. You can also search by choosing an "All" category, or by selecting Arcade Game by Genre (which is more familiar). Once a game is downloaded, you can go directly to the game to play, as Microsoft has again eliminated a step to get you to play that game faster. That's important because previously, the game was often a little hard to find once it had been downloaded.

Changes to the Media section might send little shivers of relief up your spine. Music is now seamlessly integrated into your desktop to such a degree that you can now play the music of your choice while playing a game with fiddling around. Microsoft demoed the functionality to us by using a CD with the song "Big Pimpin'" and playing Geometry Wars Evolved simultaneously. HAWT. Basically, your choice of music overrides the in-game music. You can also choose to have your music override movie or game trailer music, too.

The new update has many built-in uses for the upcoming USB Camera, due to ship this September. The first game to use the camera is the Xbox Live arcade game UNO, but Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Vegas enables players to map their face onto an in-game character (like Neversoft first did with Tony Hawk's Underground). World Series Poker also uses the camera and several additional Xbox Live Arcade games will use the camera. Microsoft stressed other notable games will make use of the camera, though it wouldn't reveal which ones. We'll just settle on speculating that perhaps Gears of War, Mass Effect, Too Human, Forza 2, and maybe even Viva Pinata will possibly use it.

Finally, and most importantly, Microsoft fixed the start-up functionality. Now, if you have left a disc in the system and boot it up, there's an option to go straight to the main desktop, as opposed to automatically (and frustratingly) launching the inserted game. You won't have to stop the game, and then switch to the desktop.

Next week's spring update is filled with dozens more additions, such as the ability to see the battery charge level of a backward compatible game on the Guide blade, easier to find themes, and more.

A 360 Dashboard update finally!?!?!?!

Everybody wants one, but no one knows when its comin'. A friggin dashboard update for the Xbox 360. It was supposed to come out yesterday! Well whenever it comes (hopefully very, very soon) it will fix all the little things we gamers don't really like about the dashboard. Here is the full story courtesy of IGN:

Microsoft's Xbox Live service is due for repairs, said a post on the Xbox message board today.

The user went hunting through Microsoft's support Web site today and uncovered several links to planned updates. The updates include active downloads, which will allow you to play games, watch movies or hang out on the dashboard while you download content. Gone are the days of staring at the progress bar inching to the right of your screen.

Also, probably due to the requests of 360 users everywhere, the 360 will now have an option to boot directly to the dashboard, even if a game or movie is already in the console. Reportedly, you can toggle this option on or off, which is a small yet welcome change.

MS also has plans to update DVD playback but the post does not go into detail on future change. We are going to go ahead and assume that you will still be able to play DVD movies.

These changes were slated to be released for download May 23 but no patch or update has been released. We can only assume that a patch will be released this summer. MS isn't ready to shed light on the subject, however. The links to the support pages have been taken down and no one was available for comment at press time.

More Halo 3 News!

Hey Everyone! I found some awesome news on the development of the Halo 3 multiplayer. It's up and running but only for those lucky b@$ta*** at Bungie. Here's the full story from IGN:

According to a recent post on Bungie's weekly update, a test version of Halo 3's multiplayer modes is already being played. The post stated, "Lars, one of the new(er) multiplayer designers, has a regular multiplayer test in session now - that happens every day - and with surprisingly polished-looking graphics, although I'm told a lot of the textures and decorator objects are just placeholder at the moment. Could have fooled me." That was posted by Frankie, community manager over at Bungie.

This leads us to believe that Halo 3 is in fact much further along than Microsoft let on at E3. Frankie went on to say, "The multiplayer test lab is still packed full of old-school 4:3 480i NTSC TV sets, which tells you two things. One is that we're making sure this game looks awesome on non HD sets, and two, that there is always a crazy rush to get to the sets that are HD during those sessions."

It's certainly good news for the many Halo 3 fans out there, and even better for those without HDTV sets. More as it happens.

______________________________________________________

Also,if you didn't know, there is some Halo 3 marketplace content that has been up. It consists of three things- The infamous Halo3 Announcement trailer-free,Halo 3 picture pack- 80 micorsoft pts.,and a Halo 3 theme (very cool,i bought it) 150 microsoft pts.

This is the best time to accomodate everyone's schedule. Here is the link to the Roundtable Skype Cast

3. GLewis (GameTalk)

I'm sorry about all the weird stuff and I hope most of you can still make it! There will be a short description of what to expect when you come.

This Roundtable will be down differently than most gamer podcasts... Here's what'll happen. The Hosts will ask questions of the guests and then whoever's ready first will answer then we will go "around the table" so to speak untill everyone is finished. Then after all the prepared questions have been asked...The Guests may ask questions of the hosts and the hosts may ask any questions they may have that anyone may want to know.

Thats all for now! We'll see you all soon I hope!

Peace
